Teaching
My goal as an educator is to encourage students to both succeed in my course and become well-rounded and adaptable individuals who are ready to go out into the world as successful and engaged citizens. In my courses, I encourage students to ask questions, work together to solve problems, and not only think critically about course content, but apply it to the real world. In my courses, I push my students to produce high quality work and provide them with the support to ensure they can meet these expectations. To do this, I provide email and office hours support, scaffolded assignments, and set clear expectations at the beginning of the semester.
Student feedback from my courses emphasizes my engagement with my students and the feedback and support I provide them with. Across multiple courses, students have highlighted my clarity of lecture material in section, how my approach in discussion section helped them learn, and helpfulness of my draft feedback. Students in my 2024 sections of Introduction to American Politics even said, “having an 8:30 am class is not easy but Sami always came to class with an uplifting and positive attitude” and that this course “made them more interested in politics.”
